Default new to site

Hello everyone,
I am new to the site in that I have been watching and gathering info for sometime now while considering buying a Smith and Wesson revolver. I finally settled on a model 64-2 with a 2" barrel. it is pinned and recessed, in mint condition with just 1 small scratch on the frame. It appears to have not been fired and it bears a serial number of AAW1681 and a marking of X6x51. It has the original Walnut grips. I believe it is of 1982 vintage. can you verify that and tell me that I didn't get "snookered" at $520.00. I am thanking you in advance

Congratulations and Welcome to the Forum

The model 64 is a fine revolver.
As you already know, yours was manufactured in 1982
While that revolver is pinned, it is not recessed.

Smith and Wesson only recessed the rim-fire and magnum revolvers.

In today's world just about any Smith and Wesson revolver in excellent condition is worth $500+

I think that you did well.

The nice thing about stainless firearms is that little scratches can be polished away fairly easily.

Welcome to the forum. The 64 in 2 inch is a great all-around utility firearm. Picked a nice one up about two years ago with box, et. al. for $500 so you did fine, provided the condition is good. Where exactly is this “X6x51” marking? A couple of pictures would be helpful. Don’t worry too much about the whole “pinned/recessed” business. You’ll catch on to the terminology if you hang out here long enough. Good shootin’,
Doug

Any numbers or markings on the yoke are meaningless at this point. They are part of the manufacturing process, and not unique to any one gun or frame size.

Absolutely correct, if indeed they are stamped in the yoke (he didn’t say). I asked for clarification because if they are stamped somewhere on the outside of the gun it would definitely impact the value . Cheers,
Doug

Thanks for all the "welcomes". It is nice to post something and get an almost instant answer from knowledgeable people. The X6X51 is on the crane.

Default Picture of the milwlandrover 64-2

I took a couple quick shoot (I'm at work) but these should suffice for now.

I think you paid a fair price for one of the most desirable carry guns. Well done and welcome to the forum.

I really like the model 64 snub.

And the NY-1 64s

Word to the wise....

A Smith & Wesson's doesn't have a crane, it has a yoke (the thing that swings out when you open the cylinder). The term "crane" is a Colt term.

You will never see the word Crane in any Smith & Wesson documentation, parts list, diagram, or drawing. The word doesn't exist in the S&W universe.

And whatever you do, be careful not to mistakenly call it a "yolk", as I once did in a thread (device spell checker), or it might end up on your face. new to site

Beautiful snub. The short-barreled K-frames are making a comeback for carry as well as collector value.

Default holster

I guess the consensus is that it IS a good deal and a great gun. Thanks to all. And that's for the Colt vs Smith and Wesson verbiage. I will be more careful. I liked the gun so much I just ordered a Lobo Enhanced Avenger holster in a dark walnut to show it off (under my shirt of course)
