Looking to buy a S&W model 442, satin chrome finish. Just like new, no box,or paperwork. What is a far price to offer?

Not sure what is fair but I paid $450.00 plus shipping for one recently.
Might have overpaid a tad but I wanted it and don't think I overpaid and figure that is all that matters.
This one was in real good shape with box, docs, etc.... and had a pair of aftermarket grips on it that sell for around $80.

Sounds like a nice gun! Is this a private sale? If so, ask if there are any accessories that might go with it: holsters, boxes of ammo (!), etc. Start out low: "It's a very common gun, I can buy a new 442 every day of the week for $400 or so..." I'd offer $300 and see what $ the seller comes up with. No way I'd pay $400 or more for something I can buy new for an equivalent price. YMMV.

The Satin Nickel 442 is one of my favorites.
I wish I still had mine.
I can not imagine not being able to get into it for something south of $500 even if it is complete with the correct box and accessories

The satin nickel 442's from the early to mid 90s were plagued by the crack in the frame under the barrel. If no crack and all checks out, I would say $450 would be the max on one.

Satin Chrome??
I have one in satin Nickel, but Chrome plating would have to be an aftermarket thing.
Here is how the factory Nickel ones look:

You can get a brand new 442 off GB for ~$300, unless you really want the nickel/chrome finish I would pass and buy a new one

Are you sure your looking at a 442 in nickle or the more common 642 in satin stainless? Many people get them confused.
That said, You can buy a new 442 or 642 in many local shops for $350- $400. Heck even performance center models often go on sale for $400 or so. $300 is as high as I would go for a used one in any finish. I'd offer $275 IF it was mint AND the model number was verified.

Sorry the photo's upside down
Mine has been shot only 5 times. I'm glad I found it.
