When were the first 629-1 guns shipped, or put another way when was the last 629 shipped?

Thanks

According to the 4th edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 629-1s were manufactured from 1982 until 1988.

So 629 would be 81 for sure, and maybe some part of 82?

No, production of the -1 variant did not start until 1982. The no-dash 629 would have preceded it.

I understand, but I was wondering if some part of 82 could have still seen production of 629 no dash?

With Smith& Wesson, it's possible. An S&W employee once told me that they manufacture frames with serial numbers but don't use them in production in serial number order. Accordingly, the scenario you suggest is potentially possible.
