I've seen a few older Pintos before, if it looks good I would go for it.

Sorry, but for 4 bills, why would you even have to ask?! Even as a parts gun, put together by Bubba Joe, if it works its worth the asking price.

May have been a dealer's special. Many times they are a limited run. Rare or not, of you like it, it's a steal for $400.....unless the barrel and cylinder were replaced because factory ones were toasted. Someone should be coming along with a search for the serial number and be able to tell you.

Default Hmmmmm..

I'd make the cylinder and barrel stainless and the rest blue.

I don't believe they were done from the factory. There may have been some, the current Chattanooga 442 is one available currently, but the majority I've seen were made by people combining/ swapping parts. Take a 586 and a 686 and swap barrels and cylinders and you have two Pintos. Rare...as in you don't see many...yes, as in worth a premium...no. They use to do all kinds of things, even combining Colts, Smith's and Rugers into hybrid guns.

Rship1, If I offended you, it was unintentional. As far as its originality, it will take some research and maybe a letter to determine its true status. But if everything else is good on the gun, it is in fact worth $400.00 as a shooter grade gun. If it is a genuine pinto and can be documented, it is worth considerable more. (in my opinion.)

If you like the way it looks, it is mechanically sound and are not concerned about its originality $400 is a very good price. A letter of authenticity would be the only way to confirm it left the factory as is:

GP-100s are good solid guns so I think that decision comes down to personal preference. Members of the Ruger Forum may differ . Good luck.
