Default Info on Model 29-5 5"

Found this locally and wondering if $850 is fair.
I have not seen this in person yet.
I asked about the 'spots' that appear on the right side of the barrel and he says they are only shown in the photo's.

This is a 5" model, product code 101274, special order number: 1289.

Any info is appreciated!

$850 is about in line for a 5" 29 Classic w/ box. As long as the seller is being honest about the finish you'll have a very nice shooter in your safe!!

Thanks.
Were less of the 5" versions made compared to 6"?

Need to decide if I 'need it' to go along with a 629 6".

The 5" Model 29-5 Classic is the high water mark in the 29 evolution IMO only trumped by the Classic DX.

likely $850 - $1000 so your getting it at rock bottom value.

BTW once you own a 5" 29-5 Classic you will talk yourself into hunting down a SS 5" 629-3 or 629-4 to pair up with it....
and a Mountain gun.....

you can try to resist but its gonna happen so easier to just give into it

Up here, they would ask $950 or $1000 on it, so I think $850 is very fair.

It has a great, great look to it as well.

That model in Blue is very rare. That is a fair price for sure. I just sold mine and already regret it. Buy buy buy.

You mind sharing what you sold it for?

The S&W catalog says they are more rare than 6". 6" in VG condition says $700. Note below it says 50% premium for 5". Seems like a stretch.

Book is 4th edition, page 234.

And I am working on buying it

What, you haven’t bought that thing yet?! C’mon man, what are you waiting for? $850 for the 5” classic, full under-lug 29-5 is an excellent price. Better grab it before somebody else who knows better does.

I sold it for 1200.00 shipped with box and tools. It was as close to NIB as you can get. I know its not popular to say but the S&W catalogs are outdated (as far as pricing goes) for the most part within a year after release. I go to a lot of gun shows and keep up with all the auction sights as well as LGS's. I never see any of the deals those claim to see all day long back east and other parts of the country. Not saying they are not being honest. Just saying around here you do not see those prices. I do not count taking advantage of widows and loved ones who were left guns by their departed fathers and grandfathers. I do see that. Not a fan of that.
One of these days I am going on a road trip back east with a big wad of money and just go to gun shows and buy these guns at smoking deals. I will report back if I actually find them. I have tried to get them from some of the people posting such low prices. Nothing yet.

Thanks yfdcap.

I realize the books are not accurate but was intrigued when it said 50% premium. I've found gun shows (here) to be pretty high on price.

I'm picking this one up tomorrow

Where in AZ are you? I'm on the West side of Phoenix.

And good luck on your smokin' deals search!

If everything is right on the gun, 850.00 IMO is a fair price. I have the classic DX, but only by accident. I looked at it in a gun store for 6 mos. One day I picked it up, and took it home. The box even has an inventory sticker on it from the dealer. He had it a while. I think it was about 550.00 at the time. 1995, I think?

If it is sound, I do not think you can go wrong. I would go for it

Default Info on Model 29-5 5"

When I see this gun, makes me wonder why all my revolvers are 4’’ and 6’’. This 5’’ seems to be the ideal barrel length.

The 5" 29/629 Classic is hard to beat. Although, for all day carry, I like the 4"ers.

At a small mom&pop FFL and it will be picked up in a few hours

I'm sure you're aware of AJI in Apache Junction. They have a decent new & used revolver section.

See attached pic of one they currently have.

It's in pretty good shape. Has some odd discoloration between the logo and cylinder as well as a very small one in front of the cylinder and where the barrel meets the frame.

I like it!

I owned a 29 Classic but the 6.5" version - was quite an accurate shooter.

Appears to have been an 8 3/8 that was shortened (?).

I sold my 629-3 5" for $1100 a few months ago. That was with box, tools and paperwork.

So $850 is a gr8 price.
