Default Filling a Hole.

I didn’t have a L-frame .357.

Now I do.

686-1 with the “M” stamp. AWM80**.

Hi Stephanie B. I like everything about your new 686 except the "handles". I know it's entirely subjective; but for my part, I like wood, with a definite preference for factory stocks.

Enjoy your new 686! I think the 4" barrels are the best!

Pretty is as pretty does.

I agree w Ikabug. Other than square butt combats there isn't a set of S&W factory stocks that work well for me. I love Houge RB no finger finger groove stocks and Pachmyer compacts. That is what works for me. Use what works. Pretty in handgun stocks comes 2nd unless the pistol or revolver is a collectible.

That is the Pachmayr SK-G "Gripper."

That big 'ole Goodyear OWNED revolvers in the 1980's. I grew up in the 1980's and that revolver is from the early 80's.

Here's a totally made up 'fact', I cannot prove it but you cannot disprove it... more 686's from 1984 to 1988 wore that grip than the Goncalo Alves Target that came on the revolver.

If you find that SK-G comfortable, then that is the CORRECT grip for you! My 6-inch circa 1989 686-3 wears the same grip and I got my SK-G a week before my revolver came in.

If ya want ugly, find a Hogue. Those look like a butt plug.

Here is my Model 686-1 Distinguished Combat Magnum also with the M stamp. I acquired it in 2011 as a LE trade-in from the Memphis, TN. The wood stocks are Concalo alves checkered target stocks with speed loader cut.

I will have to say they are a hand full in case you have smaller hands.

Congrat’s on your new acquisition. I have one that I carried as a duty gun back in the 80’s. My magnums get shot with magnum loads and wear Hogue monogrips. Hope you enjoy your’s.

I have a 686-1M also with the same grips. Not pretty but comfortable and shoot well.
