I've been bitten.
And it's all this forum's fault.
Perusing my LGS with some trade fodder in tow and my 5 year old saw this after I looked right by and he got excited.
686-4. No box or anything but that really doesn't bother me. Mechanically flawless and looks like it sat in a sock drawer all its life and very rarely shot. I may have overpaid a bit ($750 before my trade value), but these seldom come up for sale here, especially in this condition.
They had a 586-something next to it that looked in similar shape but unfortunately had some numbers electro-penciled into the frame.
BRK86xx puts it late '94 ish?

Very nice. Some times you get good deals. Some times just OK. It all evens out. And in the broad scheme of things, what's a few bucks either way.
Let us know how it shoots. Thanks.

I plan on going Tuesday to wring it out since there's a few too many thunderstorms around for my liking this weekend. Thanks!

As mentioned before... you can sell the gun down the road, and get most or all your money back..
What gets expensive with guns, is feeding them. That's a cost you can never recoup.
I have $500 guns that have cost me $1000's to shoot. Sure has been fun..

Sorry, but here in the year 2018 with a 686 dash-4, you most definitely did not overpay at $750. Not these days.
3 years ago, $750 was high end of market and still a solid buy. It's a better buy now as more folks have figured out that S&W doesn't make revolvers as well as they used to.

The stocks are too early for that gun, but who cares!
Most likely May 1994 time frame.

That's certainly good news!
I'm not usually one to purchase online so when I saw this I had to snatch it up. Buying like that makes it hard to get a feel for the market price at times.

I've been bitten, too. Don't worry...it's not fatal....but I've yet to find an antidote.
Congrats on the nice new gun!

Congratulations on acquiring the best of the 686's, the 686-4! The correct stocks will be the S&W Targets with the open speed loader cutout as shown in the attached photo of my own 686-3.
4" 686-3.

Awesome pics fellas
And thanks for the tip on the correct grips. These won't be going anywhere, however!

ctxcummins, if I had a nickel for every time this forum bit me with a revolver bug, I’d... use em for the next time this forum bites me with a revolver bug. Nice find!
