Default Favorite 642 grips?

What are your favorite grips for your 642?
For me, most all of them hurt my hands when firing anything but powder puff loads, except for the Pachmayr Compaqs. But, since they are so big they kinda defeat the purpose of the 642 as an unobtrusive carry gun.
What's your favorite?

I just have the factory grips on mine. A recent production 642-1, no lock. I run 50 or so rounds through it every couple months and make sure to keep my thumb clear of the cylinder release (it'll draw blood after just a couple rounds if I don't).

I shoot handloaded 158gn SJHP, slightly stout.

I put Hogue Grips on mine, and I love em! When I first bought it and shot it with the factory grips I thought, “Holy Hell”, shooting this thing is miserable! But then I had a gunsmith do a trigger job on it, put Hogue grips on it, and it shoots great! I carry it every day!

I like these. Really tames the felt recoil for me. I can actually enjoy shooting a box at the range

I USE THE CRIMSON TRACE LG-405 LASER GRIPS. THE LASER ALLOWS YOU TO PUT EFFECTIVE FIRE ON TARGET, FROM ANY UNORTHODOX DEFENSIVE POSITION, THAT YOU MAY HAVE BEEN FORCED TO ASSUME....

THE 405 MODEL FEATURES A MOLDED IN AIR CHAMBER, HIGH ON THE BACKSTRAP, THAT EFFECTIVELY REDUCES FELT RECOIL. THEIR MODERATE SIZE OFFERS EXCELLENT GUN CONTROL, AND CONCEALABILITY......

HERE THEY ARE ON MY NO-LOCK, M642-1......

I put Hogue Tammers on One of my 442s you can shoot a lot of rounds comfortably. My pocket 442 has the stock boot grips. I don’t shoot more than 100 rounds with them.

Agreed. It's hard to beat the Uncle Mike's Boot Grip. The Hogue Bantam Grip are also a good option. Finally, if you need some more rubber, Sile makes a slightly longer but flat J frame grip. Don't care much for wood on a carry J frame, other than factory magnas and a Tyler T.

I've used Pachmayr Compacs on my pocket-carried EDC for eighteen years. I don't find them hard to conceal. Yes, they are bigger than boot grips, but easier to access and a hell of a lot more comfortable and controllable to shoot.

They were offered by S&W ( don't know maker) some time ago. I purchased these NIB from a forum member. I don't pocket carry my 642, but would imagine the grips may be a little large for that. However, they are not "sticky", so that would help.

I use wood boot grips but would like to find boots that cover the backstrap, but fear they don’t exist.

the look. The color is blue lava from Hogue.

Those Sile grips made the difference between hating my 442 and begin able to actually train with it. Thanks NCBeagle for showing me the light.

I have a set of J frame banana grips on my 42. They give me a hand full and easier to control. I use an IWB (appendix) i or naked in the RF pocket.

I have some of the Sile S&W J frame round butt rubber grips on a Model 36 that had bad rubber on it when I bought it. I like the grips and got them on eBay for less than $12 shipped.

My 640-1 came w/ the UM boots. Nice & concealable - but not fun to shoot.

Tried the Hogue Centennial Tamers, & found the ergonomics to be great! That said, they were a touch too big for pocket carry - but ideal for OWB.

Tried the Hogue J frame Bantams, & like 'em well enough to put a set on my M&P340, as well. They conceal well for pocket carry, & have just enough palm swell, to be more comfortable then the Uncle Mikes.

Both have already been mentioned but in my limited experience, I prefer the factory boot grips by UM or magnas with a tyler adaptor. Both seem good for concealment, comfort and control on my M642-1.

I have a Hogue rubber monogrip on mine. Came with boot grips, hate my pinky hanging out in space( I have large hands). Gonna try my hand at making a set of wood grips again( made a set for my 460 that came out nice) .

Actually, I have them on two of my j-frames. They pocket carry fine for me and are perfect for my big hands. I prefer them over wood. YMMV

I think they're made by Hogue for S&W and are close to the old Uncle Mikes just a little slimmer, and you're right their not as sticky which makes them better for pocket carry.

Uncle Mikes (designed by Craig Spegal). Managed to find NOS stocks for my 642, my 686, and my Model 10 all on eBay.

I ordered a set of these grips from S&W several years back for my model 60 and love them. Covers back strap and extra length for my larger hands. Rubber is not tacky. I like them much better than boot grips.

Another fan of Uncle Mike's boot grips. Unlike the stock S&Ws, they will allow speedloader use.

I got my sans lock 642 with a Red Crimson Trace. It doesn't really help much, considering that all my practice is in full daylight outside.

I guess I can say that it helps when practicing/dry-firing with caps, while sitting around the TV/PC inside.
Saves ammo while perfecting your trigger pull.

I also like the PGS Hideout grips, though I prefer the ones without finger grooves. The only downside is they don't work with speedloaders unless you modify them. I did that with the set that's on my 642 now. Bonus: They're only about $20 from Brownells.

Crimson Trace. I find they are better for recoil than the factory grips that came with mine. The laser doesn't really add anymore weight or size of any significance. If the laser is never used, fine; but, it's available if you like it and want it. I like it and want it, especially, for odd shooting positions such as under a church pew, under a restaurant table, around a corner, etc.

Karl Nill (for Centennials) Grips are my favorite. Magnums? No problem.

I use these on my 640-1 Pro and 940, too. In OWB leather at 4 o'clock they don't print with a vest.
