Default Performance Center 2 5/8" 629-6 front sight off ?

I have not shot this one yet, and will be going to a range to test it out. The 629-6 is about 6-7 months old with very little usage. So, with that in mind, let me know if you think the sight is compensating for something and this is common in modern Smith revolvers, or is something to far out of whack? The front sight seems to line up perfect with the rear sight, and the barrel does not look tweaked or over torqued or anything.

Let me know your thoughts.

I hope it shoots to point of aim with the front sight whacked back to center. If not send that critter back to its birthplace.

It’s not properly installed. S&W should fix this for you and adjust the sights.

I’ve turned down a 629 Stealth Hunter at a local store for a similar issue. In that instance the front sight set to the side and rotated outwards by a few degrees.

Have to wonder what the guy was thinking/seeing who installed that sight.

Amazes me that there is not some minimal level of QC to catch this kind of stuff before a gun gets shipped. Gives the impression that the factory installers have no pride in workmanship.

The front sight putter inners must be the new hires.

I contacted S&W. They said to send it in to fix. However, wait time with the 2 week summer shutdown is over 8 weeks.

I bought a 986 last year to carry as a off duty gun. I was at the range qualifying with it and was doing a miserable job. As I was shooting in the prone position the firearms instructor stopped me and took the weapon. He had seen the front sight had moved to the left to the point of almost falling off. We were able to move it to center, or almost center, with a thumb. Off to S&W it went the next day where the sight was replaced in about a week. It has been OK since.

Holy cow! I just sent my new Model 69 in to repair cylinder gap and hope it's not going to be 2 months or more before I see it again!!! They didn't mention any time frame.

The last employee who assembled/inspected it it should have to sign off on it and if need be stay after work to fix it when it arrives....NO VACATION for you until it's repaired and out the door!!!!!!!!

That's just to compensate for the barrel being clocked over. At least on the dovetail sights they have a way to fix it!
