People that like looking at guns would put more value on the 29.
People that like shooting guns would put more on the 629

A Model 29-5 would of been made in the late '80's. It would be pre-lock and pre-MIM. Forged hammer, trigger, and other internal components. Most S&W buyers put a premium on that over new locked guns made with MIM parts. I'd guess, to an educated buyer, the -5 would sell for at least $200 - $300 more than the M629-6.

There is no easy way to answer that question.

You do not tell us the condition of the two firearms being compared. Do they include the box, paperwork and tools? What grips are they wearing?

While you also fail to mention the finish of the Model 29, most of us are going to presume blue instead of nickel

If everything above is equal, it comes down to personal preference for carbon steel or stainless

While I would agree that most COLLECTORS and a good percentage of our Forum Members put a premium on the older over the newer, the bulk of the Smith and Wesson buying public does not care one way or the other. Remember in recent years well over one million Smith and Wessons have been sold annually. People are buying all those post everything guns

While personally I do prefer a non-lock gun just because of aesthetics, I would not pay a premium price to own one if all other things were equal

To me, I would rather own a blue firearm, I have been shooting blued firearms for decades and like the way they look. Other folks will prefer the stainless since minor blemishes can be buffed out and they are easy to clean.

both pistols are like new, both have the lock, 29-5 5" is blue with rubber grips and the box. 629-6 is a 6.5" powerport in the box wearing factory rubber grips and the lock. I already traded as he threw in a leupold m8 2x scope and mount already mounted and sighted in. rear sight in a baggie in the box.

That information changes the entire dynamic. You did not mention it was the Power Port vatriation

I would have gone for the Power Port 629 in a heartbeat. Even without the scope.

Congratulations on the new Family member
