Default Model 547 with nickel finish

Hello.

Does anyone have seen a model 547 (9mm) with a nickel finish?
Apparently there would have been only 50 made in this finish.
Thank you for your help.

Welcome! From the single photo it appears to have the original finish, but a letter of authenticity from the SWHF would be good to confirm this. Is the letter N stamped on the rear cylinder face or the side of the lower grip frame with the stock panel removed?

Yes, quite a rare bird, if factory original. The factory could have plated an original blue gun, I dont know. Worth a call to Roy or Don. With a letter to follow.

I finally received the 547. Instead of nickel finish could it be chrome. I found C1 marking under the grip and inside the crank.

Welcome to the Forum

Chrome is not a finish that the factory used in that era

The C1 is most likely and assemblers mark used to keep various fitted parts together as the firearm is polished and blued or nickeled

Is there an N on the back of the cylinder?

Also, did the seller provide any documentation to back up his claim of 1 in 50?

It might be a factory nickel job, but I doubt that it is the firearm's original finish.

If 50 had been originally produced in nickel, they would have been assigned a product code (SKU) and that product code would have turned up somewhere by now, like in the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson

Another nickel 547 recently sold on GB. It was a documented factory re-finish that is unfired since the revolver returned from Smith and Wesson.

fusil,

Can you post a photo of the revolver?
I have one that has a satin nickel finish that was done after leaving the factory. It was also crudely converted to a round butt after the refinish.

Yes I Will send you some pictures tomorrow.

With the serial number 9D37169 cording to the standard catalog it was build in 1981. The letter of authenticity say that only 11 revolver 547 were build in 1981. My gun was ship from the factory on March 4, 1982.

Could it be possible that with only 11 guns build in 1981, someone at Smith & Wesson decided to plating a few of them without marking them?

Default Pictures of the C1 mark on the 547 revolver

Could those marking be chrome finish?

Question

I've owned two 547s, but have never seen or heard of a factory original nickel version. But I've learned Never to say Never

Were that one mine, and I was uncertain about the original finish, I guess I'd have to spring for a factory letter......ymmv

colt_saa, what do you make of that 59X number?

Here is the link for the letter of authenticity. It's all speculation until then .

The 59x87 is an assembly code. It will likely be stamped on the right lower side of the grip frame and possibly elsewhere.

Eric, the only markings that have any meaning are the model number, the serial number on the bottom of the grip and any letter "N" that may appear on the left side of the grip frame (the other side, not the one in your photo) and on the back of the cylinder. It's natural to assume there is some meaning to the others, but that would be incorrect, unless you're a S&W employee matching up parts at the factory.
You indicate you have a letter of authenticity. Is it from Mr. Jinks at S&W? What did he say about finish, etc.?

Letter of authencity say blue finish. No N mark on the frame or on the cylinder. The nickel finish look like factory finish. But hard to proove. The only thing I'm sure it is that is a 1981 and only 11 were build that year.
