Default 45 ACP Ammo for 325 TR

I have had my 325 TR for awhile and normally shoot Winchester White Box 230 grain ammo at the range. I have been using this because it is cheap and available. However I get a little too much recoil from this ammo.

Anyone use another factory load that they would recommend? I am no a re-loader so I am looking at just factory loads.

Thanks!

Since most 45ACP ammunition is used in auto loaders, the power range of Factory ammunition is very limited.

After all, the manufacturers do not want to turn out ammunition that will not cycle the firearms.

While more expensive, you could look at some of the small boutique ammunition companies that produce 45AR ammunition. This will work in your revolver without the need for moon clips. Also because it is intended for revolvers ONLY, the power range of available ammunition is MUCH greater

You might also try and locate some small ammunition loaders in the Rochester area that supply the ranges and gun shows. They are often willing to do a semi-custom loading at your request if you order 1000 or so rounds of ammunition

Then you could also go the route of buying a shooting glove with a gel insert and just keep using the Winchester

Is it because of the scandium frame possibly or is it stainless? I shoot +P out of my 625's and find them all to be pooches in the recoil department. I think my 45 shield actually kicks harder but only because of size and weight I believe.

Yes, the scandium makes it pretty light.

Try a 325 PD, Scandium plus Ti cylinder.

It’s not a gun I’d want to shoot all day, but it’s not intolerable.

Wish they’d make a 625 w Ti cylinder.

Groo here
One , change the grips to something rubber or that fit better.....
Two, Search online for some remanufacturing companies
that load plated or coated ammo at under 800fps and get a case.
Last go to a lighter bullet, non +p.
There are lots of reloaders / re-manufacturers out there and case lots are cheaper.

PS. I have one and had no problems with mil- spec ammo after a grip change.
PPS If you change a 625 cylinder for TI it will way less than a TR with the steel cylinder...

Ditto on what Groo said about lighter bullets, try some 180-200 grainers and see how those work for you.

One should ordinarily expect a reduction in recoil using lighter bullets, and even a 185gr target SWC should cause a significant Dick Tracy effect on paper or mammalian targets. However, choice of grips (some people call them stocks) may be just as or more important. For my hand, Hogues are the best, with Pachmayr Compacs a fairly close second. If your hand isn't exactly the same as mine, you should anticipate the possibility of different results (this sentence is usually abbreviated to YMMV).

As the last post mentioned, why not try some factory 185 SWC "Target" ammo just to get an idea of the least available recoil factory round, or shop around locally for a duplicate.

45 ACP ball is going to be 45 ACP ball. Options are factory target swc ammo if you can find any and reloading. 45 AR is going to be close to 45 ACP ball.

Different grips can make a huge difference. I second Pachmyer compacts. They work for me.

I shot my new-to-me 325 NG today for the first time. I had some 200gr Freedom Munitions, 230gr Winchester Train, and 230gr Remington UMC JHP.

In this case, the 200gr definitely had less recoil than the other two, though it was still stout. I do reload, so I'll be rolling my own in the near future.

I definitely suggest you shop for the lighter bullets, the lighter the better.

Now if I can only solve the 1-2 light strikes per cylinder...
