Maybe Nickel 10-8 at LPS
Hello and thanks in advance for the info received. I was recently in one of the local pawn shops and they have a model 10-8 heavy barrel that appears to have been a nickel gun. Problem is someone either used a cleaner or something that has dulled the finish on most of the gun except around the grips which are still shiny. Price on it is $300.00 and if the finish wasn't jacked up I would have grabbed it. Timing and lock up are spot on! Looks mechanically sound. Do you think 300 is a fair price for what may be a beater truck gun? Is there a way to polish the nickel back out? Thanks again!

While many are designed to help remove copper alloys, very few if any gun cleaning solvents react with nickel. Unexplained dull nickel calls for a critical inspection for places the nickel flaked off. If it has not developed a patina the steel underneath will be a similar dull silver color which can make gaps in the nickel hard to spot.
It is mildly abrasive so do not make a habit of it, but Mother's Mag or another metal polish should make the nickel shine. It's likely that some elbow grease will make it look like a bargain.

I would probably get it for that price. Found a nickel model 36 two months back for $200. . .from the mid 1970's. Hardly been fired. The gun was so blackish brownish you couldn't even tell it was nickel without removing the grips and looking for the "N" on the frame. I did replace the cylinder with one I bought on EBAY for $35. I wanted the gun to be perfect, and the cylinder was the only thing that kept it from being just that. You would be surprised at how thick the nickel really is when you start working on it. I have a picture of the one I got here somewhere. The grips match so I left them on. I have another perfect pair to put on it for show. The second picture is the gun when I was finally finished with it.
