Default 686 no dash - missing Hammer Block

G'day everyone

Just a quick question hopefully. I recently picked up a 686 No Dash. Shoots great, really accurate and quite clean for its age.

It is unfortunately missing its hammer block though. I am in Australia which makes it a bit harder to get parts but I am hoping to confirm whether the hammer block is different from the later models with the frame mounted firing pin.

I have tried looking but cant find any confirmation either way, but it looks like the earlier style have some metal taken off the end of the block. If anyone can help confirm whether it is interchangeable with later models (or any other models) it would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, welcome to the forums from South Louisiana.

Looking at the Numrich/Gun Parts Corp. website, there are 2 different listings for 686 hammer blocks. They show an early style (like your gun should use) and a later style for the 686-5 engineering change, which is where they went with the internal floating style firing pin. To me, it looks like the hammer block for the newer guns is shorter, but that could just be an optical illusion.

Anyways, here are some links for you to look at:
