So I recently sold off all my different caliber handguns and consolidated all to one size. I had 9mm 40 S&W and I now only own 45 acp. In selling off all the other handguns I picked up myself some nice Smith & Wesson revolvers I've always wanted...... the 625 in 45 acp.

I'm not much of a buy it used type of guy but since S&W doesn't make them anymore (except the JM version and I don't care for the logo on the side) I stepped to gunbroker.

Over the past few weeks I watched and waited and slowly brought home a 5" 625-8, a 4" 625-8, and last but not least a 3" 625-3.

The 3" 625-3 was the hardest to find and a reasonable price. I posted a few weeks ago about their selling prices being well over $1400 bucks. After waiting and watching and phone call after phone call I finally found one I brought home for $700 shipped and transferred but it doesn't have the original box. Oh well right?

They are all in excellent shape with the 3" being the worst because I'm assuming it was carried. It only has a few slight marks on it but is still really nice. The 4" and 5" are almost like brand spanking new. I don't even think the 4" was fired a whole lot.

Now I'm waiting on some nice altamont grips to show up. I initially ordered a set of Ahrends from gripseller on ebay but they didn't fit right. She sent me a second set and they were the same. After I got the other two I tried both sets of grips on each of them and the fit was the same on all. There was a large gap in the front so she refunded me and I sent them back to her. Oh well.

I really like the ramped sight of the 3" and I'm still thinking about swapping the partridge sights on the 4" and 5" to a ramp sight but I'm going to hold off a bit and see. From the research I've done everyone says to leave target guns partridge sights.

Well here they are!!! I love each and every one of them. They are shoot excellent and I can't wait to enjoy them more and hopefully pass them down to my son one day when it's time!

As long as we are talking some of the various Scandium framed Model 325s, there were also some really cute pug nosed Scandium framed Model 625s over the years. I know, these should have been Model 325s. I don't know what S&W was thinking here, but I like them anyway
Looking down the barrel of something like the 2 3/8" Model 25 can be a teachable moment when it is loaded with the Browning BPX Personal Defense ammunition
The quest for 45 revolvers never ends

No I just started there as the 625 seem easier to find. I'd love a 325 night guard or the full size 4" 325 pd. Those seem even harder to find.

The short snubby 625-10 PC only had 300 made from my research. I haven't seen one for sale.

My other obsession right now is 1917 snub nose. You can get the 625-10 short barrel so I'll be making my own since the original is too expensive lol.

One day when funds are plentiful I'll get some blued 25's. My brother has a .44 magnum 6" like dirty harry and I absolutely love it. So that is my next goal but in 45 acp.

I also have the new S&W 1911 E series. I haven't shot that yet but it sure looks good.

Nice collection!
Rather than tormenting yourself with the PITA task of changing out the partridge sights, consider adding a 625PC to the fleet. The sights just push on and off in seconds without tools. Mine usually wears a fiber optic sight but I have been known to pop the original gold bead back on at the range from time to time.



Of course, I know the logic is a little fuzzy but it's the best excuse I could find for another 625 and I stand behind it! ;-)

I have one I picked up dirt cheap that's already been cut down. I'll be cutting it down shorter yet. I have a post about it in the older revolver forum.

Eventually I'll get a nice one and let it alone or another one and refinish it to match this one.

If you mean these, they are Model 625s. product code 170266. 103 were produced back in 2006

If you mean this oneThis is a Model 25 that was manufactured back in 1980. It was originally a 6"

Austin Behlert shortened it to 2 3/8" and converted the grip frame to K-frame round butt proportions plus he performed some other refinements

Yeah I mean the blued one. The 625-10 are sweet revolvers but very hard to find. I haven't even seen one for sale yet.

That blued one is awesome. So you had a regular 25 shortened as short as possible. That's sweet. What did they do for a front sight?

My 1917 I'll be cutting and welding on the frame to retain the serial number and converting it into a round butt. I've also thought about making it a K frame round butt. I'm shooting for 2" or so.

Those 2 625s are of the -11 engineering revision. They are chambered for 45 Long Colt, not 45 ACP

For the most part (after the eighties) with Models 25 and 625 the even engineering revisions are 45ACP and the odd engineering revisions are 45 Long Colt. As with everything S&W that rule has exceptions because we know that the -3 engineering revision of the Model 625 is 45ACP
As to the Behlert conversion, there are many thousands like it out there. This style of conversion was very popular from the mid 70s to the mid 80s.

Behlert and Jovino are the two best known names, but dozens, perhaps hundreds of gunsmiths did these back then. Jovino named theirs the "EFFECTOR"

Remember that S&W did not have a round butt N-frame until 1985 and it took Lew Horton to talk them into it.

Front sights were no big deal they just silver soldered a ramp on to the barrel rib .

Back in those days even Astra was doing the same thing with their large frame revolvers. Astra named their conversions the "TERMINATOR" and offered them in 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum and 45 Long Colt
Right now I have a spare 8 3/8" Model 57 that I will turn into a snubby round butt if I ever get the free time. I am several years behind in my fun projects.

I’ve always liked the look of the Jovino Effectors. Of course, Behlert was no slouch either. Are there still craftsman smiths out there that do that level of workmanship?

I've owned 2 Astra Terminators. Both nice handguns. They both loved 44 Special Silvertips but were terrible w cast bullets. I'd love a Jovino in 45 ACP. I'm sure there is a prelock 625 in 45 ACP in my future. Have 2 625s in 45 Colt but ACP guns just seem to slip away.
