Wandered into a Pawn Shop today I had never visited. Surprised at the revolver inventory. Since I’m a sucker for 3” Smiths, the 4 screw 3” Model 10 caught my attention immediately. Has some honest finish wear but locks up like a vault and bore looks great. The non original grips aren’t pretty but with the wear feel great. May not change them. We quickly struck a deal and when owner realized how much I liked the 3” gun, he pulls out a NIB Mod 13-3 Nickel. Has the paperwork but no tools. Also in box was a like new Bronze Tyler T Grip. Asking price was crazy but we did negotiate down to $1150 for the pair. Certainly not the steal of the century but it’s the 1st 4 screw 3” Model 10 I’ve ever seen. Not sure how rare it is and also it’s the 1st NIB 3” Model 13 I’ve run across, so I’m happy as a lark.

Nicely done. I have a very nice condition 3" model 10, 4 screw lettered to July 1959. There was a reference here on the forum to one shipped one week before mine that was not model marked. Don't think I have ever seen a documented 5 screw 3" M&P.

What engineering change is the Model 10?

Congratulations, I think you did OK. I would be second guessing myself, but that is what they cost these days.

BTW, I just saw an identical Nickel 13 last week (not for sale) talk about eye candy!

I follow the 3" k frames fairly closely and honestly I think you got a solid deal
Like you I would have bought both and let the dust settle after sprinted out of that pawn shop. Finding 3" k frames locally is hard enough not mention two of them in what appears to be good condition (that model 10 in nickel is gorgeous). Nice buy!!

Congratulations. Maybe not a rock bottom bargain, but you at least paid a fair price for two quality Smith revolvers. May they serve you well.

The pawnshops that I have been to in Houston are awful for Smith revolvers although I have scored some good S&W semi-automatics. Only rusted and broken junk past rehabilitation - when they have anything at all. Of course, they also start at Gunbroker NIB prices.
I must be going to the wrong places! Of course, Collector's Firearms has usually has anything I want, but that is like fishing in a barrel.

It may wind up being less of a bargain, because I'm sure that the NIB Model 13 will wind up getting the snot shot out of it. Sure I might lower the value, but I don't plan on selling and my plan is what the gun might lose in value will give me that much pleasure doing what it was designed to do.

Oh my... I would add a pair of Tyler-T's that that lovely duo and shoot/enjoy the snot out of them! I'm finding I like 3" barreled revolvers the best out of all the barrel lengths... even over my vintage beloved 1 7/8" M36's... A 3" snub just balances so well in the hand and seems to point exactly where I'm aiming at naturally. I have a pair of 3" M29's that are absolutely the most balanced, natural pointing revolvers I've ever put in my meaty mitts!

I'm honestly liking your 3" model 10 as much as your 13-3. Looks like it can tell as story or two.

I guess I just live in the right part of the country. Most of my best finds come out of Pawn Shops.

Concur on the 3” barreled guns. I picked up my first 3” M65 about two months ago. I now understand why 3” K frame guns are so desirable. The balance and handling with the stock Magnas and Tyler T grip is incredible.
OP, I am envious of your nickeled 3” M10. I am now looking for a 3” M64/10 RB version.

I have fortunately acquired a good many 3” K frames and I love them all but my m64 3” rb has become my favorite carry gun. It replaced a 3” m65 because it has one of the smoothest actions I’ve run across.

I will have to check pawn shops a little more often. Nice find
