Default Mod 18 22mag

I have given up on finding a mod48
to shoot. I have 2 18s and I am
thinking about reaming one out
I know bore size is .001 smaller
don't think this will be a problem.
Does any one know of a gun smith
In Ohio that does this work?

You could probably find a model 48 cylinder and have it fitted which would protect the value of the 18.

I was faced with a similar problem trying to locate a M-648 and eventually found a M-648 cylinder and had it fitted to a M-617-1 revolver. Very pleased with the results, may be even more accurate than the 617 shooting the .22LR. I agree with glencal1 that you find a cylinder and have it fitted because the M-18 is steadly rising in value and a very desirable revolver! My adcice is usually worth exactly what you paid for it.

Reem the second M17 cylinder to .22 Mag.

I just reamed out a sticky Model 63 to .22 Magnum. Works great. You can rent a reamer from 4D Reamers in Kalispell, MT, for about 40 bucks. All you need is a tap handle, some cutting oil, and a couple of free hours. No need to pay a gunsmith.

I haven’t had any issues regarding the supposed .001 difference in bore diameter.

I think you should get the 17 cylinder and have it fitted & reamed.

I've been thinking of reaming a finish challenged K-22. But I was going to ream 3 chambers for .22 Mag and leave the other 3 as Long Rifle.

Interesting idea, but how do you plan to mark the chambers so it isn't confusing.
