Default Frame differences between older and newer 586/686

I understand that with the -6 models came an engineering change that altered the frame slightly between the newer and older models. Would one of you who know provide photos or other technical guidance that will either confirm or deny this please?

I am not talking about the inclusion of the internal lock. Rather the space of frame behind the cylinder is longer on the newer pistols presumably to accommodate the floating firing pin?

I saw a photo while researching and cannot find it again.

Thanks in advance!

The frame is thicker on the newer model for the frame mounted firing pin. The hammers are quite a bit different to match.

Thank you! Would you, or anyone, have compare and contrast type photos?

The dash number was increased to 5 when 686s got MIM hammers and frame mounted firing pins. While there were big changes to the frame to accommodate them the external shape of the frame remained substantially the same. The dash number was raised to 6 when internal locks were added. Dash 6 frames extend back further on both sides of the hammer to make room for the locks.

This is just my opinion.... but I don't see or have heard of any positive changes in the frame to accommodate the "lock".

The addition of the lock does not add any strength or any other pluses to the strength of the frame or reliability of the action. In fact it reduces the reliability IMO.....as has been shown in numerous documented malfunctions that many like to overlook.
