Welcome to the Forum, and enjoy that soon to be experienced retirement. And thank you for your service.

I'm a little confused by some of the information you provided, 1988-1992 is correct for the 19-6 but the serial number doesn't seem correct as the 211K series would have ended in 1982, according to the Standard Catalog anyway. I would expect a 19-6 to have a triple Alpha SN, A?? or B??. Are you sure it is not a 19-5? Maybe someone else can explain it. In any case, those 2.5 inch 19s are great guns in any dash number. Pictures might help, and we do love pictures here.

Welcome to the Forum, hope we see you here often.

Default Got out the magnifying glass

Got out the magnifying glass and it appears that you are correct.

The stamp is very hard to read even with the magnifying glass.

I had three people look at it and they thought it might be a 5 or 6.

If it is a 5, then it makes more sense.

What if any are the differences in the 19-5 and the 19-6?

The 19-5 changes were in 1982 to eliminate cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel. Small change in cylinder length to 1.62" with elimination of the recessed cylinder.

The 19-6 changes were in 1988 to the new yoke retention system/radius stud package/floating hand/hammer nose bushing.

Above per the S&W Standard Catalog
