S&W's current stocks - odd question
I guess this is the right Forum for this....
S&W has a sale on currently for various stocks. I am curious about the nomenclature:
Quote:
GRIP J RD,HERIT.CLAS,F/WALNUT,CK,MED
|
I get grip, j rd is J-frame round, but what is "herit.clas", "F/Walnut", "CK", and "MED"?
I get walnut and med might be medium but it is unclear to me.
Here's another:
Quote:
GRIP N-TAR. SQ/SQ,HON./ROSE,CK
|
"HON" and "CK" are unclear to me. The rest I can understand. CK is checkered maybe?
Another:
Quote:
K/L SQ TRAD TARGET CKRD GRIP N-DALE
|
What is "DALE"?
Then there are these:
GRIP N SQ HERIT.CLAS,F/WALNUT,CK,MED
(C) Smith & Wesson, Inc.
I really want to know precisely what N frame gun they are designed for.

I saw that dale one also and honestly I don't know. They're codes obviously in some language I'm unaware of.
I think if you click on "description " they do say what models they fit. I think I did that on the two that I ordered...

I think on the dale ones, it said it fits models with pointed ends?of stock (or something like that) so I assumed they were for the square butt models.

I'll guess:
"herit.clas" -- heritage classic (or class). It's one of those old timey looking stocks.
"F/Walnut" -- fake walnut (faux walnut).
"CK" -- I agree, it likely means checkered.
"Hon./Rose" -- Honey Rosewood is a type of wood.

I've got a new set of (I guess from the above) heritage classic diamond with medallion that look like old but the bottom border is elliptical not straight.
Photos posted below.

So smith and wesson has declined to a new low - fake walnut. wow. Black walnut is very plentiful in America. I agree the Kernel did a great job of guessing the factory "gobble de gook".

For what it's worth
Here is a new pair of N frame diamond magnas (maybe heritage classic?) side-by-side with a pair of 1920s K frame service stocks. Note the elliptical bottom border vs the straight on the 20s.
Next photo is the free pair of diamond target (?) that came on this 28-2 when it came back from S&W last month.
Guess I need a better camera.

Your camera is fine - those are clear pictures. NOW I can understand elliptical versus straight. I just didn't notice it before.
On the S&W store site the elliptical stocks say "Heritage Classic". I would have thought the 1920s style were the heritage classics but maybe I misunderstand.
And thanks! I always need extra education. How I missed that before is, well, never mind.

I reckon those 1920s stocks are original--they are just on a 1931 (or so) M&P (sn 633xxx). I can hear the calls of "Heresy" now!

I can guess too. F stands for French (AKA European) Walnut. Feel better?
