Default Model 586 Classic

I like square butts and I cannot lie
You other brothers can’t deny!

My first L Frame, Model 586 Classic “Distinguished Combat Magnum”

If you’ve been on the fence about the Classic line, make the jump! The trigger is phenomenal! The bluing is deep, even, and polished. The Altamont checkered target grips are fantastic.

Picked it up from Cabela’s for $700 out of pocket including taxes, before $30 MIR currently available. Currently on sale for $749 but I bought several discounted gift cards via Raise (check it out if you haven’t) at an average of 12% off, so I got $800 worth of gift cards for $700.

Ultimately, I’ll be coating it in Renaissance Wax and stashing it in my safe until my 1 year old is 18.

Shoot it for the next 17 years, clean it , wax and then give it to him.

I consider my 586 no dash to be the original classic.

I've been shooting my no-dash 586 since the mid 80's. Do I wish I'd waxed and stored it? Not for a minute.

IMNHO, designate it the kid's gun but shoot it in the meantime. The kid will probably appreciate getting the gun Dad shot all the time much more than the one that gathered dust in the safe.

Hopefully he won’t say “Dad, what’s that hole for?”

Great gesture, but I’d probably shoot it some too. Would mean even more to the kid to think that Dad used and appreciated that gun before passing it on.

Here’s my 586-1 M

An absolutely beautiful gun. I've got a stainless 686 with rubber grips that was one of the first guns I ever bought. Its a great, low maintenance firearm for the range or my night stand. I still think those blued guns with wooden grips like that outshine it in looks ever day of the week.

Thanks! This one was a bit challenging to photograph, being shiny and dark. Alas, iPhone cameras do the job if you do your part.

I keep throwing cash at the pics of your 586 but nothing is coming out of my printer. Damned steel and wood guns.

I need to learn how to take good quality photos.

Congratulations on both your gun and your 1 year old baby. I am partial to the older models but your gun is a beauty. As a parent you always have to test out all the new toys to make sure they are safe and the gun is no exception. I am with everybody else for you to occasionally "test" the gun out. Enjoy and in a blink of an eye before you know it you will be handing that fine gun over to the next generation.

Agree with all the others. You definitely need to shoot it. To not shoot it would be like owning a Corvette and not driving it! Get out and enjoy it!

New or old 586’s were meant to be shot, enjoy it now or later, they are great revolvers.
