Default 686+ Moonclips ..

Any one use moon clips when shooting their 686+ PC ?? What size do you use or do you have both .20 & .25 clips according to the ammo brand your using ?? Or do you only have 1 size and use it for everything ..

Have never used Moon clips or speed loaders which brings me to my next question ..

What brand of Speed Loader is the best and why it is in your opinion ..

Any and all help will be appreciated ..

I don’t have the 686+ PC but my 686-4+ was cut for moonclip a by TK custom. I use the .025 ones, and they work fine with federal, Remington, blazer, and most Speer brass. I’ve got tons of those brands of brass so only use the one kind of moonclip.

I’ve used both the HKS and speed beez speedloaders. I found the speedbeez a little faster. I’m not a fan of the HKS loader for the seven shot. I had a gunsmith chamfer the chamber mouths and the gun accepts speedloaders much better than when it was stock. Feel free to PM me too f you have any other questions.

Invest in the good clip and demooning tools too if you haven’t already.

Was looking at TK's demooning tool on their web site ..and at their moon clips and loader ..

Had also been looking at the speed beez speedloaders .. they looked the best made ..

Is it worth getting their set up tray to load the beez speed loaders ?? Looks like it would make it much simpler ..

If I were using the speedbeez loaders extensively I’d invest in the loading block. My friend had several of their loaders and they worked well for him. I prefer the moon clips and the TK tools are well designed and soundly built. It’s tough to get the seventh round into the clip without the tool.

I don't know poo about moon clips. As for speedloaders, I've been using Safariland loaders for 35~ years and it's the only brand I want. I still have and use the first ones I ever bought.

Can see how the block would be nice at the range .. don't know which I will like better since I've not used either .. so plan to have 2 speed loaders and some moon clips and use both till I decide which I like ..

I've seen a guy at the range using moon clips and they looked very fast in reloading .. verses slower load speeds using a speed loader ..

Thanks to all who replied ..

I always use the .025 clips, I like the thicker clips for durability. In matches they hit the ground a lot and I figure the thicker clips will hold up better. You do have to use either Federal, Remington or TNQ brass I found at Cabelas.

As far as tools go, I have moonclipped guns in .357, 5,7 and 8 round. 9mm, 8 round, .44 mag 6 round, and 10mm and .45 6 round.
I shoot moonclipped revolvers in matches all summer and use moonclips for ccw. I have never used a tool to load the clips. I just carefully snap them in by hand. You will need a tool to remove the cases though.

I just wanted to be able to more easily swap ammo between the two types I carry and the type I range plink with, so I just ordered a few packages of moonclips from S&W so I can also swap carry reloads easily also.

They are very sturdy and work well for the .357 Federal, Buffalo Bore, American Eagle, and S&B I use.
