Default 629 Classic w/Red Dot: Holster Suggestions Please

I want this for woods carry. I'm open to suggestions. It does not need to be leather.

I hunted deer for several years with an 8 3/8" barreled Smith Model 29 with a two powered scope and my "bad weather gun" was a Ruger Red Hawk 7 1/2" also in .44 Magnum.

My holster of choice was the Bianchi Across the Chest (Bandelier style) holster for a scoped revolver. The holster would easily accomodate either revolver as well as my 10" barreled TC Contender. I used a Bianchi belt and ammo slide with it. It came with an optional flap that completely covered the revolver for rough country. I cannot imagine a better rig. It was almost instantly adjustable for shirt sleeve weather to below zero weather clothing.

It saw a LOT of use and the heavy nylon shows no wear in spite of heavy use over several years.

It apparently is out of fashion these days as I could not find that particular holster in the current Bianchi lineup. You might want to check Ebay. Uncle Mike's Holsters had a similar rig but I never carried it.

FWIW

Check with "Simply Rugged". They make a chest type holster to fit your gun. Excellent quality.

Default Holster?

What barrel length? I have an extra Uncle Mike's nylon bandolier type. It had a 629 6" w/scope!

This looks like it'll fit the bill: http://www.unclemikes.com/holsters/s...ulder-holsters
Or you may want to PM jcelect & take him up on his offer in post #4. May be the same holster.

For hunting purpose I used uncle mikes scoped bandolier holsters ,one was for my m-29 with 10 5/8" barrel which still worked just fine on 8 3/8" guns . I also had one for a 6" 629. Benefit was the flap that was Velcro adjustable. I also have an8"&6" uncle mike scoped shoulder holsters I use while grouse hunting as it keeps out of the way of the shotgun . One thing about the bandolier is the shoulder strap can be removed and it can be worn on your belt . Size 3 is what fits my 29/629's. Those same holsters work great for my scoped k22's with alittle strap adjustment.

Lose the red dot, go to iron, you can do it in marginal light to 50 yards. Get a nice Desantis or Bianchi cross-draw or strong-side belt holster. Stiff gun belt. Catch up on porky unawares, or push him into a corner, draw and blast. Save the optics for a rifle.

Do a web search for shoulder holsters? I carry my 6&1/2" with Ultra red dot in one. I think mine is made by Pistol Packing?

Also found a Passport bandolier holster (R8S) in my hunting gear. It's another long time favorite, but I had completely forgotten it is an "off" brand.

ETA: Looks like it would now be "Federal" holster, vis.:

I have a S&W 629 8 3/8" barrel with a Burris handgun scope on it. I'm looking at getting ether the Galco Kodiak Hunter or the Triple K "Big Thunder"
