Default Light Primer hits with my New 460

I've had a few light Primer Strikes Occur with my new 460 X Frame. I am using CCI #250 Magnum Rifle Primers. It usually happens on D/A Firing at approx 5 times per 50rds. My Revolver is 100% Stock. I wonder if any other 460 owners have had a similar experience. I bought 1000 CCI Primers that I want to use up before trying another brand. The Gun will always detonate the Primer on the 2nd Strike.

If it's factory new, I would send it back for an evaluation. Does it also produce a similar malfunction (misfire in DA) with factory loads?

Hi: The only factory ammo that I fired were a couple Boxes of Hornady but they were all shot S/A and all fired on the 1st pull. It seems to be a D/A Problem. I believe that the S&W ignition system has a Problem with the extra heavy CCI LR Mag Primers.
I may load some Reduced Pressure Rounds with Standard LR Primers and see if the Problem Goes away. I was Just Curious if anyone else had a Similar Problem with using LRM Primers in an X Frame.

I have a 625 and a 610. I have had problems with light strikes when firing d/a but not s/a. In both situations, the culprit has been the tensioning screw on the main spring ( think I am stating the name of the parts correctly ). Overtime, the screw had loosened. After taking the grips off, I tightened the screw and the problem went away. I was told by a gunsmith that when firing in single action, there was more force.
You would think that a new revolver would not have that problem.I use what ever type of primers are available. Lately Win l. p. which are $30. otd from lgs.
I am not an expert on revolvers but your situation sounds like problems I have had.

Check your main spring screw and ensure it is tight (located under the grip).

Make sure you are seating the the primers completely, this seems to be a common problem with those just starting to reload this cartridge, compare against factory ammunition will determine if it is your reloads or a gun issue as others have stated.

In my testing WLR (Winchester) primers produce the best results with all but a few powders and those are not commonly used in the US.

good luck and be safe
