642/649 front sight dimensions?
Does anyone know the height and width of the front sight on the pinned 2 1/4 barreled guns?
My 649 has a bigdot sight thats like aiming with a basketball, so I am thinking of ordering a dawson front sight that is closer to the stock dimensions.

Not sure if it's the same, but my 640-1's front sight is .125" wide and .145" high. (pinned sight, same bbl length)

Dawson has a .145 tall and .100 wide, and I know their sights run narrow, so I might give this sight a try.

Is there a reason not to just get a factory replacement from S&W? Just wondering.

I would like to try a fiber optic sight. I considered going with Hi-Viz since they make the FO sight on the 351pd. But I believe that sight sits up a lot higher, because the rear sight channel of the 351 is higher with a rounded bottom to accommodate the roundness of the FO.
Dawson sights have a great reputation and they are a square black post sight, making it a little closer to the stock 649 sight shape, so hopefully it will work better with the low and square rear channel, making slower/aimed shooting a little easier.
