Newest member of my Model 66 family
This is a Model 66-2 with a 3 inch barrel. It is one of the Ashland 5,000. It has been fired but is in great condition.

You’re one lucky guy!
A 3” K-frame in on my wish list.
Already have Model 19-5 and 66-4 in 2.5”. (I consider myself “lucky” too.)

I lucked into one a year or so ago. The LGS thought it was a standard 2.5." Really a cool gun. Congrats.

Congrats!
The 3" 66 was my grail gun. Bought my -2 off a forum member last year with a set of flawless magna grips. Bought the current grips off him a couple months after buying the gun. My 2 1/2" is also a -2.
I think I have all the 3" stainless K's... 64. 65. 65 LS, and the 66. Thinking about starting on the blued versions now.

LOL I remember back in the late 80s they couldn't those 3" 66s away ....
a LGSmith got me one off the Distributors shelf (-3) ..... it had been there a year.......$270 with a polished action...... sweet gun..... got a second cus the price was right. Was going to give it to my Dad......but he "borrowed" my 4" round butt 686 instead.
Like Ashlander I lucked into another (-4) about 12 years ago; LGS didn't have it marked as anything special just a....... "S&W Model 66 .357"...... $325
Wood714 good luck on finding a 3" 19 ...... IIRC only 500 or so made in the mid-70s.
My family are 2 1/2,3 and 4 inch 66s....... no 6inch!

Very nice!
I have a 66-2 3”, 66-3 3”, 65-5 3” and 65-6 3” to name a few. Won’t part with any of them, they are just the perfect carry size IMO.

Very nice, I'm jealous! I don't have a model 66 family. Apparently my four-inch model 66-2 is a confirmed bachelor

Those stocks on the 3" are not something I've seen a lot of... What are they called? Round butt targets????

Very nice!!! I have heard about the stainless rear adjustables, but I'm not sure I've ever actually seen one. At least not since I've been looking closely.
What is the "Ashland" model mean?

I think the 3” is the perfect barrel length. I have a decent family coming along. (1) Mod 10, (1) Mod 64, (2) Mod 13, (2) Mod 65, and (2) Mod 66.

Asland was a big distributor. If a distributor bought enough guns they could order special features. They ordered 5,000 3" Model 66s.
I had never seen one before either until I saw one in my LGS. As I mentioned in a previous posting, the LGS thought it was a standard 2.5" gun. I haggled over price, but did not mention that is was a somewhat rare 3" gun until the paperwork was done and it was mine. Only then did I tell the guys that I had never even seen a 3" 66 before. That comment was met with a resounding silence.

K frame round butt target stocks. They came checkered & smooth. Both are very pricey these days!

While we're talking about the rare 3" 66s, I should mention that the new 2.75 is a doozy in its own right - and not nearly as rare. The forcing cone is beefy all the way around; it has a full-size ejector; the new lock-up on the yoke is an improvement over the old system (that could back out and "jam" the gun); and the new two-piece barrel looks cool.
