I have a Performance Center Schofield 2000 that has some issues that I need help with. First, as you can see in the picture, the rear of the cylinder is getting dented by the 2 cylinder stop tabs on the rear sight (top latch). Secondly, one of those tabs on the rear sight has broken off. I assume these tabs are there to prevent the cylinder from slamming backwards during recoil but Im only guessing. My understanding is that there are no parts for these guns. Is that true? I have read a couple of threads concerning the marks on the back of the cylinder but never anything about the broken rear sight tabs. Anyone seem this before and know of a solution? Thanks!
Have you called S&W and talked to a customer rep or a tech about this? I take it that these were manufactured around the year 2000 from the thread title, right? If so, they are supposed to warranty for life on material breakage. Other than that, I can't help you on this as I have no top break experience.
PS, you also might try PM'ing a moderator and have him move this over to the Gunsmithing forum, as you might get answers on this problem there more quickly.
