I saw this model 586-3 for sale recently and thought it strange that the barrel is not marked on the right side and is marked Smith & Wesson over 357 Magnum on the left side. The side plate has no commemorative markings, just the round S&W trademark stamp on the left side. Where did this barrel come from? Sorry for the blurry pictures.
I have a 586-3 6” nickel with the same stamping , I believe mine is from a commemorative overrun from the same time period but have no way to confirm , I found a bill Elliot commemorative online with the same stamping on the barrel and the sideplate and other side of the barrel were engraved, here’s a pic of mine
