Default Unexpected Model 10-8 followed me home!

Stopped by the LGS today and spotted a lone blued Smith amongst the sea of autos in the used case. It was a 4" heavy barrel model 10 wearing pachmayr presentation grips. After asking to see it and taking a closer look, I found it was a model 10-8 with a pinned barrel. There was a little muzzle wear and a small scuff on one cylinder flute, but otherwise, the finish looked at least 90% or better. The chambers were dirty and needed a good cleaning as they had lots of lead from what appeared to be lots of wadcutters. It has an orange insert in the front sight that I assume was added by a previous owner and not factory because I've never heard of one offered. I usually don't go for any modifications on my Smiths from factory other than stocks sometimes, but I kind of like the insert. It looks professionally done and does make the front sight easy to see. Combined the the large 1/8" sights it's almost like having target sights they're so big and easy to see! I will admit straight up that I didn't need another model 10 and wasn't looking for one, but this one kind of spoke to me. It was offered to me for $230 +tax, so how could I walk away? After a brief range test, I was rewarded with three 10 ring hits at 25 yards with 158 gr LSWC. I found it was a square butt upon removing the Pachmayrs at home. Oddly enough, the presentation grips it was wearing were one piece. All the Pachmayr Grippers with the finger grooves I've seen are one piece, but I've never seen the presentation style in once piece. Serial number is a 5D, placing it in 1979 according to SCSW. I never cease to be amazed by the craftsmanship on these. I put on a set of period correct correct PC magnas from my wood box to complete the clean-up. Here's some pics. Not bad for a $230 model 10. I'm still smiling.

Just realized I accidentally placed this thread in the wrong spot. Should have been in the 1961-1980 by one year. Sorry!

How do you all get these deals???? I've seen ones with no added bits and they are more like 500 bucks. 8 years ago. I just don't see those kinds of deals up here......
