629-2 Classic Hunter
I just picked up locally a 629-2 that I think is a Classic Hunter: unfluted cylinder and a Hogue monogrip. Can anyone confirm this is what I've got? Serial is BDZ9xxx, which I think puts it around 1988. It is not stamped 629-2E, so I assume it doesn't have the endurance upgrades.
Any rough estimates on the value? I got it without any box. Thanks!

That's what it looks like to me. No endurance upgrades on the -2 (they started out by hardening the yoke, it may have that but no hammer block or longer cylinder stop notches). I saw one for sale for $650 a year or so ago.
I have a 29-4 classic hunter like that and it is a fine shooter. I like the square butts on them too.

I’ve got one too, BEA 3517 made in Aug 1989, was LNIB.

That is a nice looking 629-2 I have seen them for sale from 700 to a grand or so depending on the condition and time of year ( hunting season close ) and area . Down here it would bring 7 to 8 hundred pretty easy I have guys offer me that for my 629-1 at the range at least a couple times a year.

I thought there were some 629-2E's that got the endurance upgrades, but I'm not sure where I read that.

I also have a 629-2 Classic Hunter serial number BEE57xx from 1989. Mine has the flat side finger groove combats. They shorted me on the barrel length though, mine is only three inches.

I think I would prefer the shorter barrel, and I know I'd prefer some Combats over this Hogue

It's really hard to know what got what and when it got it. It's clear as mud. I have seen 629-2e classic models that had all the upgrades but the 29 didn't get all the upgrades until -5.
I have a 29-4 that I assume has a hardened yoke but definitely doesn't have anything else.
Your 629-2 classic hunter and my 29-4 classic hunter were probably made around the same time, 88-89. I would think they have the same features.

I think it's pretty crazy how unclear it is all is sometimes. Not just with this model, but all the S&W models and the changing features.
