Default 617-3 question

Hello Everyone,

Brand new member here that is totally clueless so please forgive me for my ramblings. I have been offered a 617-3 in excellent condition. I tried to research this pistol and found there are differences between each dash model. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the -3 model? The owner values the gun and $750 which seems high to me but maybe I'm missing something. Figured I would save some time searching the internet and just come directly to the experts. Thanks for your help.

The Mod 617 is a peach of a gun to shoot. All of the variations are good. I assume it is a 6 shot, (the 617-4 was first to have 10 shot I believe). The -3 was the first 617 to have the newer style cylinder stop, eliminating the cylinder stop stud. It doesn't have the internal lock that some don't like. My opinion is there isn't any real advantage/disadvantage from a -1, -2, -3, -4, etc.

I do think $715 is a bit on the high side unless it is unfired in the box with all accessories. I have a -6 and it is a fine shooter, and the "I L" is a non-issue.

Buds Guns has a new 6" Model 617 (10-round) for sale at $671 (cash discount), free shipping. You would have to add on your FFL transfer fee. If you are a military vet, you are also eligible for a $100 rebate.

I bought a new M617, 4" barrel at Sportsman's Warehouse in June 2016 for $750 plus tax, they were pretty hard to find back then, so not many good deals available.
