S&W Model 586 no dash
Ok, I was wondering if anyone can help me with the date of birth for my S&W Model 586 no dash. Serial Number is AUM5278. I purchased at my LGS that does alot of work on my firearms. It had been beat up a little bit so the LGS had it cerakoted before my purchase. I have several older/vintage blue and stainless steel Smiths and wouldn't dare take them in and have it done, but the internals and barrel were very clean on this smith so I went ahead and got it (plus I didn't have a 586 up to this point). I do like the color they chose. Can't wait to get to the range and shoot. Thank you in advance.

I am taking my Mom's advice and commenting on the Uncle Mike's grips you've got installed... I like the feel of those also.

The horror......!!!
Actually, there's something about it I like. It will make a great trail gun and I bet it shoots like crazy. I don't know when it was made, but I'm betting someone here will.

I'm showing a date of 1986 for AUM. That is about the only thing I have to say about the "situation". Hope it shoots well for you, Enjoy

I like the look. Congrats! I'll bet you like the way it shoots. I love shooting my 4" 586.

Just saw AUH 9600 at my LGS (in Switzerland). It looks a bit different.

Heck, I have to say I like it.
I'm not sure why.
It just looks........"serious".
I wouldn't want my entire collection to look like that, but I'd buy that one if priced reasonably.

Thanx for the positive reply! I knew once I posted I would get some negative feedback regardless of what I was saying. I think it will be a good trail gun and range gun. Again, I would never do this to any of my other blue/stainless Smiths. Just wanted to share and see if anyone could provide the date of manufacture. Thank you again.

Wouldn't the no-dash
Wouldn't the no-dash be closer to 1981???
Whatever. It's a great shooting pistol.

When I was a kid, the neighbor painted his old pickup with housepaint and a brush (no kidding!).
I really liked the tires.

As far as the date, I'd guess late 1986. I own a revolver with S/N AUC 41XX from roughly October 1986.
I like the 2-tone look. I'm not so sure about the color, but it looks better than than a beat up, pitted gun.
I have a Pre-model 10 that has the same story.

At least it’s not pink. Don’t worry about the cerakote most of it’ll be gone after some real use, then you can have it re-blued, hard chromed or NP3d. Definitely a classy girl that went a little heavy with the make up, but sometimes that’s ok.

The color of cerakote chosen for the frame and barrel reminds me of the NHL's Nashville Predator's attempt at their first ever "Third Jersey." Many fans referred to the shade of yellow as... well, one of the aromatic by-products of a human baby.

Looks just fine and I'll bet you get years of service from it. Plus there won't be another at the range or in the field! Nice change of pace. Enjoy.
