Default Date of manufacture model 10-7

Hello,
I just picked up a 10-7 2.5" without a pinned barrel. The serial number is ACS27XX. Any help tracking the date of manufacture would be much appreciated!

Regards

A phone call to S&W customer service and they will tell you the date of manufacture. But a model 10-7 was made in 1977 and the 10-8 came out later that same year.

I got a Nickle plated model 10-7 4" barrel with some sort of pearl looking grip panels. Beautiful revolver 38 spec. My question is the serial number starts with a "D" but immediately before the "D" is number "5". Know revolver made in 79 but cannot find out what the 5 means?

A 5D serial number dates from 1979. When all of the "D" numbers were used, they began adding a letter in front of the "D". They went all the way up to 30D... before the new three letter system was implemented.

An ACS..... date is likely from 1983, but could be up to 1986. This specific code isn't listed in the book but others very close are shown.

Hope this helps.

Steve

ACS is probably from the winter of 1983. The barrel is measured from the muzzle to the cylinder face - 2" and 3" were made in some quantities but a 2.5" is a rare bird.
