Picked up a Model 60 no dash today
Currently soaking in oil. It's getting a scrubbing tonight. Could use some help with a date of birth please. Serial number R2532xx. It's a pinned barrel. Also noticed a heart with a 3 in it. It's located on the right side of the grip frame. Just curious what that might refer to.

99Bob,
I own 2 model 60s. Date of production of first 1-4-1988 serial no. AYTXXXX. The second one was made 5-31-1988 serial no. BAEXXXX. Call S&W with the serial numbers and they will give you the date of production.

Likely a mid-1979 gun.
I have seen the heart stamp on other guns; it may be an assembler's, fitter's or inspector's stamp. Since no one really knows which specifically I vote inspector .

That was my plan with this one. I just realized I was sold a problem child. Spent the better part of the evening trying to figure it out. Starting a new thread.
