Default Model 65, 4 inch

Hello. New member here. I bought a Model 65, 4 inch back in the early 90's, took it to the range twice after I got it and it's been sitting in my closet since then. It's in great shape, never been holstered. I put 2 or 3 boxes through it, so less than 150 rounds, and I still have the box that it came in. Any suggestions as to how to go about selling this thing and what a fair price would be. I've never sold a gun before so want to be sure that I proceed in a legal and low hassle way.

Appreciate any help.

Welcome to the forum. Please open the cylinder, and look at the stamping for the model number below the barrel, or it may be on the box. You probably have a M65-3. Pics would help. Not sure of the correct value. I do have an active ad posted yesterday in the want to buy forum for a 65-1.

You can sell it on this forum in the want to sell ads. You may be able to sell it face to face depending on your state laws, but you can ship it to an FFl holder on a buyer's behalf

Can you post a pic, and say the first 4 or 5 letters of the serial number, if you do not want to display the entire number. Others answering will want that information to be more helpful to your request

Yep BFZ is a 1990 gun. The stainless guns sell like hotcakes especially with box. My guestimate without seeing it would be in the $600 range if it has all the paperwork and goodies in the box.

Welcome! I think it would go for $500 easily but you always ask more . Post it for sale here (additional charge for shipping), arrange to have it shipped via your local FFL, have the buyer send payment and a copy of the transferring dealer’s license and away it goes. Be sure to ask the buyer to check it is legal to buy in their state/city.

That is a very nice gun. Very nice.

If it were 3” barrel I might not be able to resist making you an offer. Although my wife would have thrown a fit! So than God it wasn’t a 3 inch. You may have saved my life!

More used versions sell for $450-$525 in these parts. With box and that extra set of grips, plus it's in great condition I don't think it would be hard to get $600 out of it.

I bought my S&W Model 65-1 Cost - $200. (12-1977) and my best friend loved to borrow it so much I bought him a copy. Great gun, thousands of rounds, mostly magnums. Always took it backpacking with me. To me it is worth more than a grand, so I will never sell it. Street value is about $500 to $600 bucks. But as I said to me it is well worth much more. Some things you never sell.
