Question So a local auction has this 629-1

This place has a number of guns and they usually go pretty close to market value. That being said on occasion one comes up that interests me.

So right now they have this. It says it's a 629-1, but I wanted to know if this is a stock configuration or if someone has had work done to it.There are so many different designs that I generally can't keep up, so sometimes it's better to just ask.

Any and all help is appreciated.

At a glance I'm confident, but not certain, that the muzzle brake was an after market alteration. Supporting that, the front sight is not original, the hammer, trigger and rear of the cylinder's sides have been polished and the trigger reshaped. Also the Performance Center did not open until after dash 2s superseded dash 1s so there were not a lot of variations during the dash 1's time.

Since the revolver appears to be customized for fast timed matches and standard .44 magnum cartridges take their toll on a revolver I'd critically inspect the end shake and carry up before bidding. Those things can be tuned up but they affect value. This one is a shooter, not a collector piece.

While bidding do not forget that dash 1s fall in between more collectable pinned and recessed no dashes and more desirable dash 2Es and later dashes that have the endurance package. Considering only dash number they are the least valuable of the 629s with forged hammers and triggers. Offsetting that there is more demand for shorter barrels.

That gun may be of interest for someone looking for a comp gun. I believe most others would pass on it.
