The 040 matches the 040 on the frame.. they belong together.

I called Lew Horton a few months ago about two 625 3" on gunbroker that were advertised as lew horton specials. They told me they didn't sell a 625 special until about 1994 in a 625-4. From the looks of yours with the laser etched Smith and Wesson on the barrel it probably is a model of 1988 or 1989. I have the same 625 in a 5" and 3" both have the ben serial number.

Unfortunately that seller sold both revolvers at $1500 + falsely advertised.

There was another seller who sold one recently that had actual Lew Horton paperwork showing and it fetched $1600 I believe.

I waited and got a 625-3 3" for just a hair over $1000 after shipping and transfer fees.

I see a lot of guns falsely advertised as Lew Horton and they really aren't which sucks.
