ANSWERING QUESTIONS ON 3" M629
A WHILE BACK A FORUM MEMBER WAS COMPILING A LIST TO WHICH I ADDED THE 3" M629 PICTURED BELOW.......
I CAN'T RETRIEVE THE THREAD, BUT I'LL PROVIDE WHAT INFO I HAVE, WITH THE HOPE THAT IT WILL BE READ BY THE INTERESTED PARTY....
THE REVOLVER IS A M629-1, SERIAL #AWD01xx......
ACCORDING TO THE STANDARD CATALOG, ITS A "COMBAT MAGNUM". THE PRODUCT CODE IS 103610. THE SPECIAL ORDER CODE IS AT7141.......
5,000 WERE MANUFACTURED IN 1985. 3,000 WERE SENT TO LEW HORTON FOR DISTRIBUTION. THE REMAINING 2,000 WERE DISTRIBUTED BY S&W. MY REVOLVER WAS ONE OF THOSE 2,000.......

Beautiful example. I have a blued version, the M29 made in 85' for Lew Horton Distribution.

MASSAD AYOOB HAS OPINED, THAT FINGER GROOVED GRIPS ONLY FIT 10% OF THE SHOOTING POPULATION. UNFORTUNATELY, I AM NOT ONE OF THEM. I LOVE THEIR TACTI-COOL LOOK, BUT THEY JUST DON'T WORK FOR ME......
I SOLD THEM OFF, TO HELP FINANCE THE SAMBAR STAGS AND TYLER-T, THAT MY REVOLVER WORE.......
NOT SURPRISINGLY, EVEN BACK IN THE DAY, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A LONG WAIT FOR MY TYLER-T TO ARRIVE, WHEN MY HISTORICAL LETTER SHOWED UP, AND I SHOT THE ABOVE PIC.....
SOME THINGS JUST NEVER CHANGE......lol

I'm blessed to be in that 10% with the combats fitting my hands. In fact, they are the only grips on a revolver that I've not changed outright or augmented with Tyler-T's.
And the wait time and not being able to directly order with a credit card on the Tyler site is starting to get real stupid IMO. To print out an order form and then snail mail it in with your CC# on it in this day and age is beyond retarded! 1977' was a great year and is a time when that kind of Sears and Roebuck catalogue ordering was acceptable. I'll get them from Robertsontradingpost on GA from now on! Too bad they won't have any "N" frame "Tyler-T'" until December.

I believe that was my thread
Hey Joe, thanks for the updated information. I'm pretty sure the 629-1 was on my original list. It was actually the first 3" N frame I bought. Mine is not a Lew Horton either S/N BAN05xx.
Best regards, Bob.

I'm one of those lucky 10% that finger grooved grips fit me perfectly. I also prefer rubber grips over wood grips. Wood may look better but I want to shoot the snot out of my roscoes and for me the rubber grips makes a long range trip or just a few full power 44 Mags much more comfortable.
The OP's 629 looks fantastic but for me those grips look painful and harder to get a full fingered purchase on them.

YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME, BOB. I'M SOOO GLAD THAT THE INFO GOT TO THE RIGHT PERSON.....
A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, I SAW A BEAUTIFUL 3" M625, "MODEL OF 1989" ON GUNBROKER. TAKE A PEEK AT IT. I DON'T RECALL SEEING THAT ON YOUR LIST.........
I HAVE A 4" VERSION, THAT HAS THE NICEST STOCK TRIGGER OF ALL MY S&Ws. THE GUN SHOOTS CLOVERLEAVES OFF THE BENCH @ 50'. IMHO---THE FULL POTENTIAL OF THE .45ACP CARTRIDGE IS NOT REALIZED, UNTIL IT IS SHOT FROM A REVOLVER......
MY BEST REGARDS TO YOU, AS WELL........JOE

I got one of each, 1 of the 3000 and 1 of the 2000. It shouldn’t make a bit of difference what distributor it came from, but some put a higher value on the LH.

THEY ARE BOTH BEAUTIES ! ! !
YOUR SITUATION IS RATHER UNIQUE, AND IT ALLOWS ME TO ASK A FEW QUESTIONS-----
IS THE OVERALL QUALITY, FIT OR FINISH OF THE LH GUN ANY BETTER THAN THE ONE OF THE 2,000 ? ? ?
WAS THE LH VERSION MORE EXPENSIVE ? ? ?
IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT IF THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN OVERALL QUALITY, THAT ONE OF THE 2,000 WOULD BE MORE SOUGHT AFTER AND HIGHER VALUED, BECAUSE OF ITS RELATIVE SCARCITY.....

I also got one of the non-LH 629-1s. Found it in a pawn shop, broght it home and cleaned it up and started looking up info about it. It is serial numbered BBA 07XX. It is one of the best shooting revolvers I have. I know that I loose some MV with the short barrel but my 1000fps reloads and factory 44 magnum shoot to the same POI at 25yds. I really like my 3" 629-1.
