Default It’s wrong to brag right? 3” Model 66-3

A friend of mine let me buy his one owner Model 66-3 with a 3” barrel. It’s in great condition and has been mostly safe kept and shot little. He still had the original box, wrapping paper and paperwork. He let me have it for $800. Always wanted a 3” and
I’m a K Frame lover. So be honest with me, how good of a deal did I really get?

Go ahead and brag - you are one lucky guy! Congrats on a great gun - and a great friend, too.

Only thing that would have beat that is if he had two and you sent me one.

Nice catch at that price due to knowing the history on the gun and the box, etc.

I saw some dings on the wood, but otherwise, it looks great. Given the history, box, and papers, I'd say you did just fine, considering that package could easily be valued well over $1K. They don't build them like that any more, either. I'd love to own it as a companion to my 2.5" 66-3. Congratulations!

I think the 3” was the correct barrel length. Perfect balance for me. Most naturally pointing gun Ive ever shot
IMHO That right there is Smiths best 357

Wrong to brag? I think not. A wonderful gun, and you did just fine on the price. You owe your buddy a solid, down the road. In the meantime, fire away with .38 Specials and once in a while, a smattering of 357 Magnums for extra fun.

Revolver Man, yod did just FINE. About 2 years ago, I paid a lot more than you did with the box and all the items it shipped with. The only difference is/was the one I got had an order date the matched my birth month and day.

That about $475 more than I paid for my last one a used -4 and $530 more than I paid for each of the first two.......... both -3s in 1988.

"You have a good friend ..... with everything that could be worth closer to $1500 at a auction.

Definitely bragging rights!

I paid $1,000 shipped for a -2 in near mint condition with no box from a forum member last November, and never had a regret.

You did too good!

I just traded two Bersa pistols + $ 425 for a new manufacture model Model 66 short bbl. I love revolvers, too. Before that I bought a new model 60.

You stole it....Someone show me one for sale in that condition with matching box for under $1500. I wouldn't let my -2 go for less than $1500 and I don't have the matching box.

I sold mine years ago,to,a friend who moved out of state and sold it. I've been looking for a replacement for years. That's one of the reasons I don't sell toys anymore. Congratulations on your find!

I had a chance to buy an identical gun last year for $700. I didn't need it for myself and would have flipped it, if I didn't have to do so much travel to put it on my license and take it off.It would have involved three long drives to the HQ of county police.

2 members mentioned $1500; at least one pointed out that $1200 on a sales site seems common. That would be consistent with what I recall of the few I have seen for sale here. My guess is that you paid no more than 2/3 of what it is worth, and likely a lot closer to half. It is a very appealing revolver, but given what financial priorities I have, I doubt I will ever own one. You did very well, and if you did not kiss the seller and buy him dinner, you should have to register.
