Default M21-4 Reintroduction Questions

A friend of mine recently acquired a S&W Model 21-4 in 44 special. According to SCSW these were produced in limited numbers including a Thunder Mountain variant. Seeking additional information; what’s the difference(s) between the Thunder Mountain and non-Thunder Mountain versions? My friends 21-4 is blued, unfired NIB will all papers. Appreciate your thoughts regarding value as we cant find it listed in the Blue Book. Many thanks...

The thunder ranch version has the thunder ranch logo in gold on one side irrc on the sideplate. It may have also had tr logo magna style grips. It also came with a glass top presentation case with TR logo. The regular production ones did not have all the logos.

Identical firearm minus the logo; got it thanks! Appreciate any thoughts regarding NIB value. Does the logo bring a premium?

From the ones I've seen sell the TR logo and garb devalues it over the stock version.

The Thunder Ranch version had Thunder Ranch logo grips on it

I also believe that the Thunder Ranch version also came with a Thunder Ranch gun rug, at least the Model 22s did

Fortunately by the time the 22s were released they decided not to put the big gold logo on the side plate

The logo on the grips doesn't look bad, but I am sure glad that my 22-4 doesn't have that gaudy gold monstrosity on it.

That's the way mine was. Took 3 years to finally get $670.00 for it. A big 10 dollar profit. I'll never buy another at any price.

I had one of the Thunder Ranch ones. Beside the ugly golden chicken on the side, it had the absolutely worst grips I've ever used. I replaced them with a set of Pachmayr's, or maybe they were Hogues, but they were not only better grips, but they hid most of the chicken.

Other than that, I liked the gun, but eventually sold it off to buy something else I couldn't live without.
