Default Smith r8 357 mag

Looked at one yesterday and really liked it. Anybody shot one a lot and had any issues with the blast shield? I had to replace one on my 329pd after a few thousand rounds (maybe 2000?). Any comments on durability?

The 327 M&P R8 and the 327 TRR8 came out at the same time in the early/mid 2000s. So the oldest examples are way too young to give us an idea as to how durable the revolvers are. We need another 50 or 75 years on that one

Basically these are same firearm. The 327 M&P R8 has a permanent bottom rail while the 327 TRR8's botom rail is removable

I have one of the two tone 327 TRR8s that were produce in 2007

I very much like the revolver.

I have had no issues with the blast sheild on any of my Scandium revolvers. There is no telling how many hundreds of thousands of Scandium framed revolvers Smith and Wesson has produced since their introduction, math alone says some of them had to have been replaced by now for various reasons.

Have you put a good many rounds through them? Magnums or specials?
The blast shieldis a little farther away from the edge of the cylinder / barrel I think on the r8 so that may make less susceptible to damage than the 329 pd?
Thanks

My 340 has had over 7000 full magnums through it since I purchased it. This revolver gets shot by lots of people. About 100 of my associates have used it to shoot our qualifying course over the years. Some made it, many did not

All my other Scandium revolvers have had less through them and not all of my Scandium revolvers are chambered in Magnum cartridges

No issues at all with my R8. A mix of probably 600 magnum/1500 .38. Still nice and tight with no cutting of the blast shield.

The only problem I had with my R8 was when a friend put his fingers in front of the cylinder near the forcing cone and pulled the trigger. Gun was fine, but he got a good powder burn.
