Default Mag-Na-Port a 325 TR?

Looking so see if anyone has Mag-na-Ported their 325 Thunder Ranch (45 ACP). I shoot this gun pretty well but I get alot of muzzle flip. I was wondering if having it Mag-na-ported would help.

Thanks!

Yes it is a two piece barrel. I was wondering about that too. They list a price to do scandium revolvers, so maybe they do port them. Anyway, U sent them an email asking them.

Yes they will. They ported my 460 Mag. (3 piece) barrel. They had to make a barrel wrench to remove the nut though.

.

I don't know how much recoil reduction you'd get from it since the 45ACP is a low pressure round?

IMHO, AFTERMARKET MAGNAPORTING WILL DECREASE THE VALUE OF YOUR REVOLVER. ITS APPEAL WILL BE DIMINISHED, AND THE COST WILL NEVER BE RECOUPED AT RESALE......

I'M CERTAIN THAT MUZZLE FLIP WILL BE SOMEWHAT REDUCED, BUT IT WILL NOT BE TOTALLY ELIMINATED. IF THATS WHAT YOU EXPECT, YOU ARE GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED. IF IT WAS SUCH A GREAT FEATURE, DONT YOU THINK THAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED INTO THE WELL THOUGHT OUT DESIGN OF THIS WEAPON ? ? ?

IF IT WAS SUCH A WORTHWHILE FEATURE, WHY AREN'T THE REVOLVERS OF MASSAD AYOOB MAGNAPORTED ? ? ? IN THE SLIM POSSIBILITY THAT YOU ARE NOT AWARE, HE'S A MULTI CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER, GUN WRITER, AND SELF DEFENSE TRAINER, AS WELL AS A RESPECTED LEO....

OF COURSE, AYOOB'S REPUTATION PALES IN COMPARISON TO THAT OF JERRY MICULEK---WHO USES AND EXTOLLS THE VIRTUES OF MAGNAPORTED WEAPONS......

IN THE END, ITS YOUR GUN AND YOUR MONEY---BUT I WOULD NOT DO IT.....

Mag-Na-Porting (and all other traditional porting)works best with high pressure/gas volume cartridges like the Magnums

You will not be pleased with the result of Mag-Na-Porting a 45ACP

What works best with the lower pressure cartridges (45ACP, 38SPL) is a expansion chamber compensator. Smith and Wesson usually calls this a PowerPort.

PowerPorts happen to work well with high pressure cartridges also

Unfortunately, PowerPorting is not something that can be easily done after the barrel is manufactured. With auto loaders, comps can be added on after the barrel (usually threaded on). Just look at any of the IPSC auto loaders

That is really tough to do on a revolver as an add on

Good points. Marc Krebs did the barrel on the Crowbar but started with a 6" 25-2 barrel, but it down to 4", ported it, and made a new front sight. I don't see how you could do that with the 2 piece barrel on the 325.

I stand corrected. Maybe they are doing two piece barrels. I had enquired a while ago, and I thought they said no.

Groo here
To cut down on the flip, go to a 200 gr bullet, or even a 185gr.
The boolet weight has a great effect on lower pressure loads like 45acp.

Wink

In the early years of my USPSA shooting of a S&W 625, the muzzle flip and recoil of factory 230gr hardball ammo was significant. I read about Magnaporting and sent my 625 to be ported. The result was no discernable lessening of recoil or flip. A much more practical idea is to handload mild 45 ACP ammo.

BTW: my ported 625 does work with 460 Rowland ammo(handloads).

Or use a heavier revolver. The 325TR weighs 31oz. while a 625 run 39-40oz.

You should buy a lightweight gun expecting more recoil relative to it's weight.

You mean the ports are more effective with the .460 round, vs .45 ACP?

Yes that's exactly what I mean. The 460 Rowland was specifically created as a much hotter 45 ACP. Hotter means more gas blowing through the ports which in turn counteracts the muzzle flip.
