Default Why is there no Mod. 586+ snubbie?!?

I know they make the L Comp thing, but I do not like that at all. What I wanna know is, since the 686+ snub has been such a huge success, why the heck has S&W not made a 586+ snub? Should be identical to the current 686+ but blued. A nickel option would be nice too, but I want a blued one. I can't believe the "brains" at S&W haven't done this yet. I don't like new Smiths, I don't like the locks, I don't like the internal firing pin either. However the 686+ snub is about the only new Smith I could say I want, but I don't want a stainless one. That's the only reason I haven't given in and bought one. If there were a blued version, I know I'd buy one as I'm sure many others would too! Come in S&W make this! And send me a couple for free for using my idea lol, I don't need revenue from it, just a couple free ones!

I love my 686 2.5” snub. I agree I would like to see a 586 version.
I could break down and buy the L comp seeing as that is as close as we have at the moment.

But then I pull out my model 10 snub with the square butt and think why I even need the 586.

I definitely hear ya on the old ones. That's why I don't like new Smiths because the old ones are so much cooler. I couldn't buy an L Comp, I just do not like the looks of them. I don't own any new Smiths and I have 3 old school with a 4th on the way, but I love the old 586 snubs, and it could be a while before I'll be able to get one. Just saying, if they did make a 586+ I would end up buying one for sure. I almost can talk myself into buying the 686, but I'd rather have an older one and that isn't as hard as finding the snub 586 from the 80's. That's why I still don't have one, but they are very nice for a new revolver. I think Smith is really missing out on some great sales. I'm sure there are people who have a 686 snub that would go and also buy the 586. I can't see them doing anything but banking on something like this. They can already make the gun, just use different steel and POOF! New gun!

As a matter of fact, they already have a longer barrel version. They are already RB so all the need to to make a snub barrel again, that's it! I really hope they do this.

Correction: The new 4 inch Mod. 586 and longer are actually SB! I knew Smith did away with the SB in like the 90's or so, but I didn't know it was back in some cases! I love it! If only they made a NEW SB Mod. 60! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Especially a prelock, shrouded ejector rob SB with the pin on the hammer in 38 special! Wow would I love that!

I dunno, guys. I have a 686+ 2.5" bbl and to me that's a snubby. I also have j-frames and they are true snubbies, but size here is relative (J to L frames).

I agree, 2.5 inch barrels are definitely snubs. I was only saying I wish they would make a new snub 586 just like your 686+ but blued. They don't make a 2.5 inch 586 is all.

One of my grail guns is a 586 with a 2 1/2 or 3" barrel. I know they exist, but are scarce as hen's teeth. On the rare occasion one does show up, its way beyond my price range.
I do sometimes run across snubbie 686s. But again, too rich for me. Besides I just prefer blue guns.

Square butt revolvers began returning to the line up about 15 years ago.

This was not too long after Saf-T-Hammer bought Smith and Wesson back from the British firm of Tompkins

IMHO, A M586+ WOULD BE A VERY ATTRACTIVE GUN, AND A GREAT SELLER. I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN A NICKEL VERSION.....

THAT'S VERY NOBLE OF YOU TO FOREGO ANY REVENUE, IN EXCHANGE FOR A COUPLE OF GUNS. THEY WOULD BE FOOLISH TO PASS UP A DEAL LIKE THAT......

Include me with the group that doesn't like the lock and internal firing pin. S&W changed the frame profile where the hammer is and now, the hammer is buried deep into the frame. Call me old school but what could be simpler than a hammer mounted firing pin? Why create a potential problem when KISS works. Why install a action lock when all that's needed is to put the revolver where children can't get at it? Call me happy with my 586 (no dash).
