Default 686 no dash 4", when was it made/shipped?

Hi,
New guy, but I've been lurking for a while.
I Bought a 686 4" a few days ago and was wondering when it was made/shipped. Serial # aeu 14xx. Sorry, no pics, it's still in jail. Gotta love Calif gun laws.
There is no M stamp, so no mod (?). In the 686 no dash or dash 4 thread someone just got theirs back, but no stamp on it.
Anyway looking forward to shooting it and thanks for any info.

Oops. one last ?. There is an E3 stamped on the crane (side that opens toward you). Is that just an assembly stamp?

According to SCSW3, 1984. My 1982 is stamped M and has MIM hammer and trigger, no trigger stop. Can't imagine they would do the recall work and not stamp one--at least back then. Are the components forged/case hardened? That would be nice.

I JUST got my 2nd 1986 circa 686 No-Dash back from S&W. I had some work done on the cylinder release AND FOR THE "M" MODIFICATION.

I see that the "M" mods were indeed done, HOWEVER, they forgot to stamp the "M" on the frame! Kind of speaks to today's S&W PC...

Thanks for the info on when it was made YankeeShooter
Your post was the one I read HorizontalMike.

The E3 is opposite the serial number but hidden when the cylinder is closed. I think I saw a pic of another 686 with an A13 in the same place.

Anyway looking forward to shooting it. I still have a few day left on my 10 day wait. Probably 13.5 gr of 2400 and a 158gr xtp is as hard as it will ever be pushed. I mostly shoot lead swc at around 900fps anymore
