Default Fathers handgun

I have an airweight 38 special ctg in perfect condition. I do not have a box, it is in a leather holster. I have no idea about guns. Any information would be helpful. #754J37

It's probably a short barrel J Frame (affectionately called a "snubbie") and intended primarily for concealed carry rather than as a range toy. Not particularly expensive. Carefully open the cylinder and under the crane you will likely find some numbers stamped into the frame that will tell you exactly what the model is. Look for something like "M 642-4" or something similar. Once you know that you can Google all the info you ever wanted to know about it.

Don't store the gun in the leather holster. That is detrimental to the bluing on a neat old family heirloom.

Default Fathers gun

The only additional numbers I can find are MOD 37, 78176, 12 with a little symbol l---l, something similar to that.

It sounds like a mid 70’s model 37 without looking it up. The early airweights do not handle steady diets of ammo. They were designed for constant carry and seldom range range visits. If it is a 3” barrel it is slightly more desireable than the really common 2” barrel.

A Model 37 definitely has more value than a 642.

As stated above, do NOT store it in a leather holster. Leather holds moisture, and over time it will start to rust the gun. Even stainless guns suffer if stored in a leather holster.
