Default Upside down stamped model # on crane

I’m new here but I’m trying to get some info I haven’t been able to find elsewhere. I recently acquired a model 60 ladysmith. I think it’s a dash two seven but when opening the cylinder to see the model I noticed it’s upside down. I don’t have any other smiths like that and haven’t seen it before. Just wondering anyone has, if it has any significance, or if it effects the value. Thanks.

Occasional miss-marks will have no significance on value. Welcome to the Forum, the Mod 60 is a well respected item.

I am unaware of any dash 27. Given the upside down orientation you mention and the number, as well as the title of your thread about the number being on the crane (yoke in S&W parlance), I suspect that you are looking at an assembly number. The model number and possibly the serial number will be on the frame, under the yoke. The serial number may only be found on the butt of the gun.

Welcome to the forum.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Sorry I meant -7 I was going to call it a 2 but that’s a different 60 I have.

you’re right on the crane/yolk as well. It’s definitely the model number I’m looking at but I didn’t say it correctly. I was debating selling it but wondered if the stamping made it rare or something I would want to hold on to.

There is no plus but could be a minus in value on a mismarked gun. Purists want everything correct. They make enough mistakes in daily manufacturing that a perfect gun is hard to come by these days...

Usually a mis-stamp or double stamp won't add any extra value for a gun. Coins are a whole different story. But guns, not so much. They stamped the wrong model number in some, double stamped some etc.
