Ah, REAL line throwing guns, not what is pictured. Had lots of experience with them in innumerable underway refuelings in the Navy.
M-14s could deliver the line from a significant distance. Replenishment ships always fired the line unless you were an aircraft or helo carrier then you fired it. Don

My LARGEST handgun would be this Remington XP-100, at approximately 17.5" long, or this 45/70 TC Contender at approximately 18" long.
