64-6 canted barrel
I have a 64-6, 2" that I purchased used about a year ago. It's a DAO that I'm told was a Brinks Armored Co. gun. It has always shot way to the right, even at 15 yards. Upon cleaning it today, I saw that the barrel is over tightened, with the front sight leaning left from the rear of the gun, decidedly so. Is this something that S and W will fix, or do I just keep aiming left? Thanks, Ken

I WOULD CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE TO DISCUSS IT. PERSONALLY, I DON'T HAVE MUCH FAITH IN THEM WHEN IT COMES TO THE ISSUE OF CANTED BARRELS.....
IF THEY ARE GOING TO CHARGE YOU TO DO IT, OR IF THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DETERMINE IF THE REVOLVER IS "WITHIN SPECS", I WOULD NOT SHIP IT TO S&W.....
I WOULD INSTEAD CONTACT CYLINDER & SLIDE, OR A WELL QUALIFIED GUNSMITH IN YOUR AREA.......

^^^^ My guess is that he's not yelling. After all, his handle is "one eye joe"...

He's not yelling, it's a long story, but it's related to his vision.

This... Smith is more than likely going to say it's within their specs with this problem...
An OP, of course we could help you more with a couple or 3 well lighted pics from the frame down to the tip of the muzzle.

This... Joe has an ocular imparement and it's easier for him to see what he is typing when caps are used. I know Joe, good guy, one of the best!

They will fix it.
Have it done professionally by S&W. It is not as simple as loosening it so the sight is straight up.
An S&W-trained armorer can correct me, but I suspect they will have to fix it so it can tightened another turn.

Really?
Has the whole world become so easily "triggered" that all caps is a big deal? Yeah, I know what it supposedly means, but it doesn't in this case.
The end.

The Smith would have to lap the barrel to get another turn and then refit the forcing cone. Should be good to go after that if done by a real deal/good Smith... of which S&W certainly has the capability and human resources! I've been extremely happy with them in the past.
Another custom shop was from Springfield. They surprised the heck out of my on my semi-custom Springer that I converted to run .45Super exclusively. That round beat that 1911 up a little bit even with all the precautions I took upgrading the main spring, recoil spring, recoil buffer, mag springs, etc... Sprinfield's custom shop did wonders to her and she came back like new. But I don't thing they have a Custom Shop anymore.

Barrels are fitted with 1/8 turn crush fit. A slight turn with a frame wrench will correct it. Very simple fix. No need to set barrel shoulder back as barrel will still be plenty tight. Hell, that is how you adjust point of impact on a fixed sighted gun. Done it many times

Did you ever have to pin the barrel after that or they just held just fine? I'm assuming they held fine. Interesting stuff to know. Thanks for sharing as I learn something new everyday... or at least try to!

Pin is largely redundant as you fit the barrel the same way in gun with the pin or not.. You can shoot all day without the pin. I have done that before I put the pin back in place to figure out if I need to turn barrel to adjust point of impact. So many on the forums do not understand that. The amount you turn the barrel to correct cant or change the point of impact is not enough to keep the pin from going in place. Reference pistolsmithing book by Pat Sweeney for an excellent treatise on changing Smith and Wesson barrels.

S&W should fix it. But if it shoots to the right try moving the rear sight?

If yours has a 2 piece barrel all bets are off. Takes special tooling only Smith has

DogDoc, I want the specific book you referenced. I'm looking on Amazon and other Vendors and I need the exact book you speak of sir. Are you talking about Pat Sweeney's "Gunsmithing, Pistols & Revolver's " 3rd Edition? That is the one that says "everything you need to know" but wanna make sure before I hit the buy button. Thanks DogDoc, I appreciate the info and your time!

Thank you brother! Ordered! Lastly, where would I obtain a barrel wrench? I'm assuming they would be sized according to frame size. All I own are "J's" and "N" frames so I'd buy one for each frame. Thanks!
