On the right grip I have a capital R in a circle and numbers 7541 and then a mark looks like a mountain. Can anyone help me out, dates ext. SCSW4 suggests the AAK alpha prefix is a 1982 production. If you had the original box and end label, that would tell us more. You can also call S&W at (800) 331-0852 and it's quite possible that they can give you a production or perhaps shipping date.

The AAK0xxx is the serial number, every other number you mentioned is an inside assembly number that was used while it was being built, but has no tangible value now, and can't really be used to identify anything... unless perhaps one of the guys who built it back in the early 80's can recognize them!

Welcome to the forum, John.

I have a NYSP 681 AAFxxxx, Mr Jinks put it at 8/82. My other 681, is AADxxxx which Mr Jinks says is 12/81. It is not a PD gun afaik.
