Default M&P 340 & 442 range report...

I recently posted about the decision between the 442 and the M&P340. I had an overwhelming amount of interest and opinions and I greatly appreciated them. I went ahead at that time and bought the 442 because I got it NIB at my local store for $310.00 plus tax which was an absolutely great deal. I was kicking the decision between the 442 and the M&P340 because my local store also had a used M&P 340 for 600.00 in original box. Of course that is why at first I opted for the 442 and am really happy with that purchase.
After buying the 442, I wondered if the store would take anything off of the 340 because they have had it for over 6 months. It was a NO lock which also intrigued me into wanting it as well so today I went to the store and got them down to $500.00 for the M&P340. I immediately bought it and took it out to the range and shot it. The gun came with the original grips but had these very abrasive grips on it that I did not like after the first 2 rounds fired so I switched over to the blue Hogues in the pic and tried them. I have attached 2 photos of my shooting of the 442 at 7 yards and the 340 at 5 yards. I am trying to figure out this big dot sight is why I had it closer. I am VERY happy with the price I paid and the fact that the gun and I can hit the target so far. The gun is from 2015 and has a few handling marks but the trigger is better than my 442 so I am happy.

Now on to my issue and a question for you guys. If you pay attention to the small steel pin that is in the pic next to the grips I took off, this fell out of the grip area when I took off those abrasive grips. I could not see anywhere that they came from on the handle portion of the gun and it appears under a micro scope that the side plate screws have not been taken off so I ask, what and or where do you guys think this is from or what is it? I am baffled... I did check the after market grips for any extra hole that the pin would be used to hold those grips together and there is not any extra holes...

Great price on the 340...You did terrific, congrats on getting both.

That pin is part of the grips, goes down at the very bottom.

actually guys I just realized it is the pin for the rope attachment if I wanted one. I realized there is a scalloped part at the bottom of the grip that allows for a tether and the pin fell out when I took off the grips. No worries now I know what it was..

That is a great price on the 340. I just picked up today a used 340PD (No lock) for $650. Can't wait to go shoot it! I love J-Frames, they just work.

The pin is from the bottom of the grip, goes in from the right side I believe. Will not fall out through the left side.

Nice guns enjoy. Tamer Grips may help the recoil.

Im not even putting the pin back in, dont need it..

I have another set of blue lava grips coming from Hogue too. Got the texted grip for the 340 though. Love these bantam grips on the j frame. It allows for a higher up grip with your middle finger than the altamonts do.

IMO, the targets are a wash. Plus, you were 2 yards closer with the 340 - that's a mile in Jframe distance.

You got a good deal on the 340. I'd hang on to both... But if one had to go, I'd sell that 442 - at the price you paid, you won't lose much, if anything.
